Boring stuff for parents
Who are ISBC?
ISBC offer a wide range of children’s books to children and parents with great savings on all books. We deliver leaflets to designated organisers in schools for children to take home. It’s a great way for schools to fundraise for books for their library as every book you buy earns free books for your school.
You can order any of the books in our current catalogues from our shop. We can either deliver them directly to you or if your child’s school has a group order open you can have them delivered to school! Find out more in our shop
What is ISBC?
We’d love to get more children enjoying reading but there’s a limit to what we can do in the leaflets to show how exciting the books really are. This site is an extension of the leaflet that children take home with lots more information about each book. There are extracts for them to read, author profiles, reviews, activities, quizzes to help them to engage with the books. They can also find out about the latest book news.

Our approach to children's privacy
We want children who visit our website to be able to take part fully in the activities and offers we provide. We also want to make sure that when we collect information from children we do so in a way that does not infringe their right to privacy. We do not ask children to disclose any more information than is reasonably necessary to enable them to participate in an activity on our website. We do not disclose personal information we have collected from children through this website to any third parties. Besides what we describe below, we do not maintain any personal information obtained from children through this website in a retrievable form.
The information we collect and how we use it
When children want to become a member of Scholastic Book Club we ask for certain details in order to set up their membership. This is how we use it:
This is what the member will use when they log in along with a password. We ask that the child DOES NOT use their real name as their username as this will be displayed if they choose to post a review.
Date of birth
We need this in order to determine the age of the person registering. If they are under 13 we need to ask for their parent’s permission before allowing them to sign up.
This allows us to confirm the membership and can also be used if the member forgets their password. We will not use this email address for any other purpose unless the member has specifically requested to receive email updates from Scholastic. If the child is under 13 we then ask for their parent/guardian’s email address. This is so that we can check with the parent/guardian to make sure that they are happy for their child to become a member and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
When a child becomes a member they are given their own page where they can add information about themselves. This page is exclusively for the members to see when they are logged in. These details will not be shared with other members unless the member posts a review or story. In this case only limited details about the books they enjoy will be shared (see below).
When a child wants to print out a personalised Membership Certificate we will ask for their name. This is so that we can personalise it correctly for them and the information will not be used for any other purpose.
Reviews and ratings
When a member chooses to rate or review a book, their rating or review will appear alongside their username and the avatar they have chosen. Other members will also be able to click on the username to find out the following information about the member:
- Favourite book
- Favourite author
- What book are you reading now
We share these details because we want to inspire more children to broaden and develop their reading. Allowing them to see what other children enjoy reading is a great way to do this but still keeps the identity of the member hidden. If you don’t wish for your child to share this information, please make sure that these details are not entered on their personal page.
Adults on the ISBC website
We encourage parents and guardians to spend time online with their children and to participate in the activities offered on this site. If your child is younger than 13, we ask you to play an active role in safeguarding his or her privacy when using our site.
